What concerns or cost would their be in a 1999 Porsche 911?
I am seeing a lot of 99' 911's that are very well-priced. What kind of considerations would you have in an 10 year-old Porsche. Servicing and such at this range, around 100k miles is average.
1999 was the first year of the 996-body 911, and the first year with a water-cooled engine. This 3.4 litre engine was replaced with a 3.6 litre six cylinder in 2002. "Purists" and collectors hated the 996 because it wasn't a "true" air-cooled 911.
Personally, I have a rule against buying the first year of any brand-new or major revision car. I've violated my rule before, but there does seem to be less market for a 1999 than for a 2000 on up.
There is a lot of nonsense put out about the prices of tires and service on 911s. I owned a 1996 993 (last of the air-cooled) 911 rear drive coupe for 5.5 years, and have now owned a 2005 (996) Turbo S (AWD) 911 coupe for nearly 2 years. Here's my experience.
An oil change for either car runs about $250.00. HOWEVER, per the owner's manual, you do them "every 15,000 miles or 1 year, whichever comes first." That's about one half to one third as often as most cars. Over time the price of oil changes is only slightly higher than say, a Subaru (I own two of those). My 1996 held 12 (yes, 12) quarts of Mobil 1 oil (dry sump system, with separate oil tank). The oil for a change costs $60 to $80; the Porsche filter is $19.95. My dealership said, "Why?" when I asked if I shouldn't change the oil more frequently.
My Turbo S uses big, expensive tires: 8 X 18 on the front and 11 X 18 on the rear. Go to http://www.tirerack.com and check for yourself: a set of Pirelli PZeros for my car runs $1,172 for all four tires. A set of Bridgestone Potenza S-02As runs $1,264. These are two OEM tires with "N" Porsche specs. You'll pay about $60 to have either set delivered to your front porch, or directly to your preferred shop. An older Porsche 911 won't take as expensive a tire set.
For the track I like Kumho Ecsta SPTs at $770.00 a set, including delivery. You should know that you'll only get 6,000 to 10,000 miles from the rear tires, depending on how you drive. The fronts, on a rear-drive car will get about double that. I've only put 10,000 miles on my 2005 so far, so I haven't found out if the AWD means faster front tire wear (I've got two sets of wheels and tires for the car).
In the 5.5 years I owned the 993, I did 5 oil changes. I did the following repairs: I had the trim around the rear window re-secured, I replaced the rubber cover on the clutch pedal, and I replaced the switch for the rear window defroster. That's all folks. I bought the car with 11,100 miles on the odometer, and sold it with 40,050. I tracked the car. I saw 150 mph in it, but it took about two miles to get there.
In the nearly 2 years I've owned the 996 Turbo, I have done 2 oil changes. I did the following repairs: absolutely nothing. I bought the car with 13,300 miles on the odometer. It now has 23,400 miles on the odometer. I've managed 150 mph on the 2/3-mile front straight at Miller Motorsport Park near Salt Lake City, the longest road course in North America.
The current model of 911 is the water-cooled 997 body car. Purists and collectors have calmed down about the end of the air-cooled 911s, and not as much hate is spewed over this latest Porsche. In fact, I hear that the 3.6 litre engine in my 2005 is now considered "perhaps the best Porsche has ever built."
ADDED:
Most of the people in the Porsche Club of America that I know change their own oil.

Im torn between getting a used 2006 bmw 530 or a new 2010 volkswagen Gti.?
I like the bmw but also appreciate the sportiness of the GTI, esoecially in black
I am 17years old.
I personally like the 2010 Volkswagen GTI. I think it will definitely go well with your age, and it's a hell of an eye catcher, especially with the new aesthetics they added with the 2010 model. Interior wise, Volkswagen is known for their luxury interiors, and the GTI is no exception. I say go for the GTI, it'll treat you in the longer run, and all of your friends will be jealous.

Whats the top speed of a chipped BMW 335i Coupe?
I'm planning to get my BMW 335i Coupe's ECU chipped because i hear that it gives better performance and abviously it'd go up to 300km/h, but i wanna know how fast it would be exactly. And also, i wanna know how i can get it chipped: is it illegal or not; and the price range,
yeah ,you'd need to lower the suspension and have a couple down force pieces (front lip spoiler , rear spoiler roof spoiler etc) and change to a better tire , then a chipped 335 should hit 180 on a good day .

How exactly does the BMW Steptronic work?
I am looking into the new 2008 BMW 135i. But I'm a little confused with the steptronic transmission. With the steptronic transmission option, is the car at all like a manual car (i.e clutch, manual shifting without using the steering wheel)? My friend had a 2003 BMW 330Li that was an automatic, but had the Tiptronic so he COULD shift manually if he wanted to. Is the new BMW 135i going to be an automatic first, manual second? I want a standard manual car with the OPTION to use the steering wheel to shift (without the clutch), but I want it to be a manual car First. And what is the difference between Tiptronic and Steptronic? Thanks.
First of all Steptronic IS the automatic. You merely "row" through the automatic gears. It will hold the car in first (or any other gear) for as long as you want until you push/pull the gear shift into the next gear. Almost all automatic cars have this feature in one shape or form.
BMW has BASICALLY two manual type transmissions. One is the common manual where you have to depress a clutch, grab a shift lever, move the lever and let the clutch back up.
The other type is SMG (or sequential manual gearbox). It IS a true manual transmission with clutch, gears, etc. However the drive does NOT have to press on a clutch pedal (which is non-existant on an SMG). Moving one of the two paddle shifters on the steering wheel will automatically trigger servos that disengage/engage the clutch.
SMG was developed from Formula 1 racing.
Once again, Steptronic is an automatic transmission that you either leave in auto mode or "play like you have a manual transmission". SMG is a true manual transmission.
If anyone doubts this, Google SMG or go to a BMW website or any other car manufacturer that has their varient of SMG.

does BMW mini cooper S need the chain tensioner changed? and what are the sign s?

An e36 M3 certainly does have a timing chain tensioner.
Part Number is 11311726503.
An e46 M3 with the s54 has timing chain tensioners also.
Don't believe what everyone posts here. Most of the answers are simply wrong. Look up the parts for yourself.

how much will a repair cost for a 2001 bmw 330i?
I'm having problems with my car the coolant is leaking and the turn lamp is not working how much do you think will it cost me to have this things repaired?
Are you talking AC coolant or radiator coolant? Probably be about a total of 2 hours labor and parts. Labor on a BMW will be between $60 and $100 an hour and then parts. Light bulb about $10 and coolant, just depends on which it is and what has to be replaced. Could just be a hose or could be more. I don't see you getting away under $200 dollars, with $300 being more likely.
Good luck!

What type of refrigerant does a volvo 760 turbo use?
Here is the simple (and complex) answer.
Your car should have a label under the hood stating the type of refrigerant. It is most likely R12.
The bad news is that R12 is hard to find, and expensive, and, bad (they say) for the environment.
Don't fret. It should be easy to convert your system. Evacuate your system, and make sure that the lube and hoses should work with R134a. See the attached link. It should save your a lot of trouble.
Good luck.

What would be a better first car: a 1993 Volvo 240 or a 1980 Mercedes 300 TD station wagon?
I am 18 and just about to get my first car. I narrowed it down to two cars: a 1993 Volvo 240 and a 1980 Mercedes 300 TD. Both cars are in pretty much mint condition. The Volvo has 97,592 miles on it and the Merc only has 29,145 miles, which is pretty unusual because these car usually go up to 200k miles or more. Anyway, I want to know which car would be a better choice to get.
Mercedes will be easier to get parts for and more shops know how to work on a Mercedes than a Volvo.
However the Mercedes being a station wagon is going to be tail heavy for an inexperienced driver to handle on wet roads, icy roads and snowy roads:
What kind of miles? Where how.! City or open road:
29,145 might seem low milage, However here is the problem. It hurts and wears an engine a lot worse poking around town stopping and starting, than being driven on an open road for long distances at a time:
You need to consider that as well:
What you really need to do is take both cars to a mechanic you can really, and I mean really trust. Have him check them both out for you. he'll have the tools and test equipment to thoroughly check both cars for hidden problems:

What is the name of the turbo charger in a 1996 Volvo 850R?
I have a Volvo 850R with a blown turbo, and I'm looking to buy a used one to replace it. I just don't know the name of it. The name is something like a G15 or K15 or something like that. Does anyone know the exact name to search for? Or where to get one for cheap? Thanks.
